Teams from Metcalf Junior High in Burnsville and Harriet Bishop Elementary in Savage won state titles at the Minnesota State Scholastic Chess Championship, held March 19-20.
The Burnsville High School Winter Drumline placed first in the Scholastic A Division of the Minnesota Percussion Association (MPA) Championships in St. Cloud, Minn. on Saturday, March 28. The victory completed an undefeated season in all of the MPA competitions in which the team participated.
The Burnsville High School Quiz Bowl team went 7-3 at the State Championship at Eastview High School on Saturday, March 7. In preliminaries, the team went 4-1 to make the playoffs from their grouping. Wayzata B was the undefeated winner in Burnsville's grouping. Moving on to a group of six for the round robin playoff, Burnsville beat Armstrong, St. Paul Academy B and the number one team in the state, Wayzata A (80-2). In the end, Burnsville lost to Eden Prairie B and St. Paul Central.
The Burnsville High School Olympic Weightlifting team won the state championship for the second consecutive year on Saturday, March 7 at Lakeville South High School. Burnsville's junior varsity team finished in second place.
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) will honor the 1975 Burnsville High School girls’ gymnastics team at the Class AA state gymnastics meet on Feb. 20, 2015. The meet will be held at 6 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.
