Thirty students from Burnsville Alternative High School (BAHS) are participating in a year-long leadership academy in which they will develop three service projects designed to have positive impact on their school and community.
The students were recommended for the academy by their teachers and other school staff members based on the leadership skills they’ve already demonstrated.
Thirty Burnsville High School students are moving on to the state DECA competition after participating at a district-level event in St. Paul on Jan. 5.
DECA is a leadership program that provides real-world experiences to prepare students for careers in finance, entrepreneurship, hospitality, marketing and management. Students in DECA-related classes, such as Introduction to Business and Marketing, Professional Sales and Marketing, and DECA Seminar, also have the opportunity to participate in competitive events that focus on demonstrating the skills they’ve learned.
Nine staff members from Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 will be presenting their work, experience and knowledge at the TIES 2017 Education Technology Conference Dec. 9-12 in Minneapolis.
This year, the National Honor Society's service project is to create a community-oriented 5K, The Doggie Dash.
All of the proceeds will go to Pets Loyal 2 Vets, a Minnesota based nonprofit that connects Minnesota veterans with therapy service dogs free of charge.
A group of teachers and administrators from Twin Cities Metro area schools visited Nicollet Junior High in Burnsville to learn about how the school has implemented its Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program on Oct. 23. The event was one of only a handful of AVID “showcases” in the Midwest this year, designed to provide an opportunity for educators to see an AVID implementation, share best practices, and learn more about AVID in a hands-on manner.
The Burnsville High School Hall of Fame Class of 2014 represents the tremendous breadth of success achieved by members of the BHS community both at the school and beyond.
