PTO donation puts flexible seating in MWS classrooms

Seating options vary in shape, height, material, texture and motion in Kerianne Loran’s first grade classroom at Marion W. Savage Elementary in Savage. And there are low and high tables that can easily be moved and combined in groups.

What you won’t see is rigid rows of school desks. Loran and other teachers want more flexible classroom furniture.

It’s an educational trend for many reasons, according to Principal Renee Brandner. Mainly, it supports student-centered, personalized learning by giving students a say in how and where they sit and who they work with.

Mother donates school supplies in memory of son

This was the seventh annual year that Lisa Raley has collected school supplies and donated them for use by students in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191.

She’s done this in loving memory of her son, Brett Raley, who died in an accident in May 2012 when he was 18. Brett had attended schools in the district so Raley wanted to bring the donations here to benefit current students.

Food donation, ugly sweater nights at girls basketball games

The Blaze Girls Basketball program is offering two great deals for students!

On Friday, Dec. 19, admission to the JV/Varsity game is $2 when students bring one non-perishable food item to donate to a local food shelf.

Additionally, on Monday, Dec. 22, the girls basketball team will be playing at home, and all students wearing an Ugly Sweater will get in for free! There will also be an Ugly Sweater contest at halftime.
