As the 2019-20 school year comes to a close, each school in District 191 has a plan to allow students to safely return items to their school during the week of May 26 to May 29. This includes textbooks and internet hotspots, as well as Chromebooks for seniors, students in grades K-8 and students who aren’t returning to District 191 in the fall.
At the same time, students will be able to retrieve personal items that may still be at school, as well as learning materials for the final week of school.
Following Department of Health guidelines, these events will be done curbside and student materials will be kept separate for at least 72 hours after being organized and before being handed out to families.
The organized return and retrieval of materials is important to help protect the health of our students, staff and families. Please watch for specific instructions from your child’s school and call your school if you have any questions or concerns.
All students in grades K-8, graduating seniors and any other student who aren't returning to District 191 in the fall should return their Chromebooks, hotspots and any other district devices they have during their school's end-of-the-year pick-up and drop-off event. Specific details of those events will be communicated from the school.
We know that some students may need to retain their devices over the summer, including if they are participating in District 191 summer school programs, taking credit recovery classes, or because it provides their only means for accessing community resources. If there is a reason your student may need to retain their device over the summer, please contact your school to make that request.
Student meals continue through June 4
Meals will continue to be provided for children through at least Thursday, June 4, which is the final day of the school year. Meals distributed on June 4 will include food for June 5, 6, and 7.
Please note that no meal service will be provided on Monday, May 25, because of the Memorial Day holiday. However, weekend meal packages distributed on Friday, May 22 will include additional food for the longer weekend.
District 191 is working on the details of a possible summer meals program. We’ll share that information as soon as possible.
