BHS crowns 2017 Homecoming King and Queen

Burnsville High School students crowned seniors Daniel Akah and Olivia Brammer as their 2017 Homecoming King and Queen in a coronation Sept. 21.

Attendants walked into a darkened, jam-packed gymnasium, with background music welcoming them in and a spotlight and floor lights illuminating their way. Last year's Homecoming King Charlie Green and Homecoming Queen Egeziharya Yilma were on hand to crown the new king and queen. (See Slideshow)

Daniel is involved in theater guild and is the publicity manager for the school’s Mraz Center for the Performing Arts. He is part of Concert Choir and Freestyle, as well as the All-State Choir. He is currently a senior class officer, leader for #BurnsvilleStorng and Young Life, and a member of student council. Daniel is also an active volunteer who participates in various events with the BHS Youth Service.

Daniel plans to apply to the University of Minnesota and Northwestern University in Chicago and major on a pre-medical track while pursuing music on the side.

Olivia is an active volunteer on the “Bowls for Brainpower” leadership team to provide weekend food to elementary students in need. She is also the theatre guild house manager for the Mraz Center for the Performing Arts and a youth commissioner for the City of Burnsville’s parks and natural resources commission. Last year, Olivia was selected to be among six Distinguished Finalists from Minnesota for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. She also is involved in WEDay, Future Teachers of America, Youth in Government, Interact Club, #BurnsvilleStrong and Senior Class officers.

Olivia plans on studying either special education or political science in college, with the hope of becoming a lobbyist for education.

Emphasizing these students' dedication as service leaders in our community, BHS Youth Service Coordinator Bri Ostoff noted that the members of the Homecoming Court have volunteered 3,300 hours in the last two years.
