Savage celebrates third Service Day Saturday

The City of Savage will celebrate its third annual Service Day Saturday on April 22 with volunteer opportunities, family fun and community partnerships. Everyone is welcome to attend this free, fun experience for the whole family, held in honor of Global Youth Service Day and sponsored by the City of Savage and the Harriet Bishop Elementary Service Club.

Participants can visit Savage City Campus, located at the intersection of McColl Drive and Dakota Avenue in Savage, and engage in simple, hands on service projects such as repacking bulk bags of rice for a local food shelf, making fleece dog toys and blankets for an animal shelter, and many more.

Fun family activities will include lunch with firefighters, ice-cream sundaes, art projects, face-painting, gardening information. Participants will also receive a commemorative bracelet that will earn them special deals at participating businesses throughout the weekend, including free admission to the Savage LifeTime Fitness on April 22 or 23.

Service Day Saturday is also a good time to donate items to help others. Organizers will be collecting gently used books, toys, shoes, brown paper grocery bags, non-perishable food items, and cash donations.
