BHS sophomores attend, receive awards at international science competition

Burnsville High School sophomores Fiona Chow, Kaylee Martynow and Robbie Wedan attended the ISWEEEP (International Sustainable World Energy Engineering Environment Project Olympiad) competition in Houston recently.

A total of 385 projects from 62 countries qualified to compete in this prestigious event.

Fiona competed in the Engineering Division with her project All About Those Blades; Kaylee Martynow competed in the Environmental Division with her project Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and their Effects on Wetlands; and Robbie Wedan competed in the Energy Division with his project, Phantom Energy Consumption in Suburban Homes.

Both Fiona and Robbie received the Honorable Mention Grand Award.

“Their accomplishment is especially exciting given that they are both sophomores,” said Burnsville High School science teacher and mentor Jennifer Hugstad-Vaa. “This group was amazing and we’re proud of each of them.”
