'I Love to Read' month at Sioux Trail

District 191 Superintendent Joe Gothard was a special guest reader as part of Sioux Trail's "I Love to Read" Month activities.

February is I LOVE TO READ MONTH at Sioux Trail.  Our theme this year is a take off on the STARS WARS craze...BOOK WARS: Entering the reading dimension.

We will be having lots of special events that highlight literacy. Throughout the month, all grade levels will have opportunity to read as a class in our decorated front hallway reading area, enjoy Richfield's reader's theater group led by retired teacher, Karen Brown, and parents will be invited to come in participate in classroom activities on National Parent Involvement Day.

Other fun activities include community guest readers coming in to share a picture book, all classes watching staff members reading a specially selected picture book via YouTube, and K-3rd grade families coming in for Breakfast with Books.

During the week of Feb. 8-12 we will be having an all school reading event – One School, One Book on We will be reading "Juneteenth for Maizie" by Floyd Cooper. That will be followed by an online discussion Feb. 11-15 where students log into google classroom and share their thoughts about the book.

In recognition of Black History Month, classrooms will decorate their doors commemorating contributions of African Americans.

The final week of February, student council is sponsoring a Dress as Your Favorite Book Character and we are holding our 2nd annual all school read-a-thon to raise funds for new books in the media center and classroom.

Check your Panther Press for the dates and time of these special events.
