The team was 6-0 with a total score of 1325 while opponents scored a total of 390.
The A Team was comprised of juniors Blake Andert, Trang Truong and Connor Van Dorpe and sophomore Nick Schatz. “There’s more good news since all four will be returning to lead us again next year,” said Les Moffitt, Quiz Bowl adviser.
In addition to the championship-level, the Burnsville B team went 7-0 to lead the junior varsity division. Burnsville C and Burnsville D each finished 6-1 to tie for third place.
“Overall, our four teams won 26 of the 28 matches they competed in,” said Moffitt. “That’s impressive!”
Moffitt wasn’t too surprised that Quiz Bowlers did so well in the conference championships. The teams have excelled all season and a team from Burnsville High School qualified to compete at the national high school quiz bowl championship tournament — for a third straight year. It will be in Dallas, TX, over Memorial Day weekend.
The Minnesota State Quiz Bowl Championships will take place March 12 at Eden Prairie.
Community members are invited to a tournament on Saturday, April 16, at Burnsville High School, to compete and get a feel for what Quiz Bowl is all about. It will be a fundraiser for the team’s trip to Nationals.
Quiz Bowl involves students answering challenging general knowledge questions as quickly as they can in competition with other high school students during a season that lasts from November to March.
