BHS Quiz Bowl teams continue outstanding season

The Quiz Bowl teams at Burnsville High School are having quite a year.

"We hosted the second round of the league's southern division last night and BHS demonstrated dominance,” according to Coach Les Moffitt regarding their Jan. 7 meet. “Our top four teams finished with an overall record of 22-2 — much better than the only other two high schools that have as many teams as we do.”
BHS’s A Team led off the night with a score of 485 over Rosemount High School’s 225. Then, they beat St. Thomas Academy's A Team, and Chaska's A and C Teams to go 4-0. “They are 8-0 overall, the only team in the south that's undefeated,” said Moffitt.
The BHS B Team topped Apple Valley High School’s A Team by 325-300. The BHS team suffered its first defeat at the hands of Chaska A but went 3-1 and are 7-1 overall, tied for the second best record in the south division. Burnsville High School teams are now 1st and 2nd in the south metro.
In other BHS results:
  • C Team went 4-0 and beat Eastview's A Team 305-245. They are 5-3 overall.
  • D Team went 3-1 and beat Eagan's B Team 215-170. They are 4-4 overall.
  • E Team went 1-3 but got its first victory and are 1-7 overall, which happens to be the same record as Breck's A Team.
Earlier this season, a team from Burnsville High School qualified to compete at the national high school quiz bowl championship tournament — for a third straight year.
Quiz Bowl involves students answering challenging general knowledge questions as quickly as they can in competition with other high school students during a season that lasts from November to March.
