The Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District is seeking AmeriCorps Promise Fellows for its secondary schools. Promise Fellows will work with youth in grades 7 through 10 at one of the following locations: Metcalf Junior High School, Eagle Ridge Junior High School, Nicollet Junior High School, and Burnsville Alternative High School.
Fellows provide researched-based interventions that focus on promoting and improving attendance, behavior, and school success. This opportunity will include mentoring students, assisting with academics before school and during the summer, engaging students and families in the school and community, and service learning. People frequently become Promise Fellows to gain experience in education, youth development, social work or related fields, and to experience the rewards of giving back to the community.
Promise Fellows typically serve in our schools Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
As a full-time AmeriCorps member, Promise Fellows serve 1,720 hours minimum (35-40 hours per week) from Sept. 1, 2015 to July 31, 2016 and receive: a modest living allowance (approximately $569 twice per month, pre-tax); health insurance; qualified student loan deferment; a $5,730 education award upon successful completion of service; and ongoing, extensive support and training.
