Superintendent Battle honored for leadership in communications
District 191 Superintendent Dr. Theresa Battle has been named the 2021 Minnesota School Public Relations Association (MinnSPRA) District Leadership in Communications Award recipient, recognizing her commitment to effective communications and public engagement.
Dr. Battle started as District 191 superintendent in July 2019, leading the community through several foundational transitions, including a levy referendum, closing three school sites and changing attendance boundaries, as well as the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In presenting the award, MinnSPRA president Tami Deland specifically pointed to Dr. Battle’s commitment to listening to staff, students and community members as part of decision making, and her personal engagement in school classrooms, staff meetings and with parent groups.
“Under Dr. Battle’s leadership, the district has tackled issues that most superintendent’s may face over the course of a decade,” Deland said. “She takes an active role in communicating with stakeholders and always approaches that work through a lens of cultural proficiency.”
The award was presented virtually on Friday, April 16 at the MinnSPRA spring conference.
