Voters approve tech levy renewal for District 191 schools, elect three board members

Voters in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 approved renewal of a technology levy that will continue to provide about $4.6 million per year in tech-specific funding for the district’s schools.

“The support from our community for their schools continues to inspire me,” said Superintendent Dr. Theresa Battle. “With this approval, we’ll continue to provide the tools students and staff need to be successful, access for all students to their courses and materials, as well as strong, secure systems across the district.”

The single ballot question was approved with 66% of the vote. It renews a technology levy that was originally approved in 2015 for another 10 years. Because it’s a renewal, the approval will not increase taxes.

Funding from the tech levy allows the district to:

  • Replace aging classroom technology equipment and devices for students and staff,
  • Support learning technology programs, such as Schoology and SeeSaw that allow students to access class content and resources,
  • Maintain school safety and security systems to protect student, staff and family data, and
  • Maintain technology infrastructure and essential support staff for students and staff.
