University of Minnesota releases College in the Schools data

Burnsville-Eagan-Savage District 191 students who participated in the College in the Schools (CIS) program saved over $450,000 during the 2022-23 school year, according to school-specific reports recently released by the University of Minnesota.

A total of 156 students from Burnsville High School and Burnsville Alternative High School took 262 classes through College in the Schools and earned 844 credits. With reduced registration fees and state aid, the average student paid less than $100 to participate in CIS. At a per-credit cost of $538.70, District 191 students earned college credits valued at $484,000.

Fifteen CIS classes are available at Burnsville High School in 2023-24: Intro to College Physics A and B, Public Speaking, University Writing, Intro to Literature, AP American History A and B, American Government, Microeconomics, Sociology, Intro to African American Studies, AP Calculus A and B, and Spanish A and B. 

“Students have many opportunities at Burnsville High School to further develop and prepare themselves for their future,” Principal Jesús Sandoval said. “The College in the Schools partnership offers access to college-level rigor and helps lower the barrier of cost when it comes to earning a college degree.”
