Ready for winter weather in District 191

It’s nearly December in Minnesota and that means that wintry weather could come at any time and affect the school day. We want families to be as prepared as possible when that happens. Please take a moment to read these reminders about how District 191 responds to dangerous weather conditions. 

Making the decision

District 191 uses weather reports from the National Weather Service and reports from our transportation provider to make decisions about potentially changing the school day due to inclement weather. If possible, a decision will be made by 5:30 a.m. and communication will go out to staff and families by 6 a.m.

How will I know?

When severe weather affects the school day, District 191 does everything it can to keep families in the know. 

An announcement will be posted on our website at www.isd191.org, on our social media channels (@isd191), and on major television news stations. 

In addition, the district will send phone, email and text messages to the contact information we have for all students.

There will be no communication from the district if the decision to hold school goes on as scheduled. 

What will happen?

On the first “snow day” of the year, there will be no regular classes for all District 191 students, including students enrolled in One91 Virtual Academy, and programs will be canceled. This includes Community Education classes, preschool programs, Project KIDS child care, and after-school activities and athletics. 

On the second and subsequent “snow day,” students in Pre-K through Grade 12 will participate in a “Remote Learning Day.” Families will receive information from their child’s teacher or school about their Remote Learning Day schedule. 

All school facilities will be closed to the public and District 191 programming, including Community Education classes, preschool programs, Project KIDS child care, and after-school activities and athletics, will be canceled.
