Pothini selected as the 2022 Triple ‘A’ Award recipient at Burnsville High School

Burnsville High School senior Shrey Pothini, who is widely known in the One91 community for his volunteerism, has now earned recognition for excelling in academics, fine arts and athletics.   

To qualify as Triple "A" Award recipients, seniors must have a 3.0 or higher-grader point average and participate in Minnesota State High School League-sponsored activities. 

 “Shrey is well deserving of this award,” said Athletics Director Guillaume Paek. “Being able to balance the commitment of coursework, athletics and arts can be quite the challenge, and he has succeeded in doing it all (on top of possibly showing up as Sparky at events!).”

While consistently maintaining a rigorous course load, Shrey has been involved in a number of activities, including orchestra, theater, football, basketball and tennis. He excels academically, evident in his National Honors Society membership and honor roll status. As a Link Crew leader, Shrey serves as a mentor to incoming freshmen. He’s also involved in student council, regularly performing his duties as Sparky, the school mascot.

“Shrey has made a conscious effort to diversify himself in regard to his academic, athletic, extracurricular, and service lives,” said Youth Services Coordinator Courtnee Jackson-Floback. “He is a mover and shaker for his generation; he will change the world because he has so much passion, determination, and the ability to think beyond the norm.”

As an eighth grader at Eagle Ridge Middle School, Shrey was honored by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program, receiving $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to join with other state honorees for four days of national recognition events. And, just last year, Shrey was the recipient of the Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Award, a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, who show leadership qualities, and who work voluntarily in their community. 

 Next fall, Shrey plans to attend the University of Central Florida and major in Film and Zoology. He also would like to continue his involvement in extracurricular activities and plans to play intramural basketball and tennis.
