Graduation rates rise in District 191

Overall four-year graduation rates rose by more than 4% across all Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 high schools for the class of 2025, according to data released by the Minnesota Department of Education on April 3.

At Burnsville High School specifically, 83.6% of students in the class of 2025 graduated in four years, up by 3.7 points from the year before.

Graduation rates also went up at Burnsville Alternative High School (from 57.9% to 63.9%) and at One91 Virtual Academy (from 62.9% to 76.2%).

Across the district, the gap in graduation rates between white students and students of color decreased from 15.4 points in 2024 to 13.9 points in 2025. The gap was 20 percentage points in 2022.

The graduation rates among English Learner students, among students receiving special education services, and among students eligible for free or reduced price meals all went up, as well.

District work that supports rising graduation rates

  • BAHS and VA Secondary continue to focus on frequent data review and personalized learning, including student weekly advisory meetings with students for graduation planning and academic progress checks
  • Credit recovery efforts continue to have a significant positive impact, helping many students graduate within 4 years.
  • Restructuring instruction for EL students at BHS  to support students in earning credits toward graduation and developing English language skills.
  • 2024-25 was the first year of the 9th Grade Academy model at BHS, which put in place structures that support academic and social engagement, raising attendance and credit attainment.
