First class of Burnsville High School ‘AA Pathway’ students receive two-year degrees

Forty-one Burnsville High School seniors received their Associate of Arts degrees on Thursday, May 8, as the first graduates of the school’s Associate of Arts Degree Pathway. 

The Associate of Arts Degree Pathway began at BHS in 2023. It enables students to take college-level courses and earn a two-year degree from Inver Hills Community College (IHCC) while being supported by BHS staff and without having to leave the BHS campus.

Members of the Associate of Arts Class of 2025 received their diplomas alongside fellow IHCC graduates at a ceremony at TCO Performance Center in Eagan. At the BHS graduation ceremony June 6, in addition to the Burnsville high school cap, gown, and tassel, Associate of Arts students will adorn with their Inver Hills tassel, a Kelly Green stole, and an Inver Hills pin. 

“I am honored and humbled to work with the students and teachers who make this program possible. The Class of 2025 graduates exemplify perseverance, intellectual curiosity, commitment to their community, and leadership,” Associate of Arts Counselor Becky Akerson said.  “All graduates intend to continue their studies and pursue their bachelors degrees next fall. As they move into their next phase of life, we can be sure they will represent the spirit and values we dedicate ourselves to in District 191.”
