Families will receive text notifications by default starting Sept. 20

Starting on Sept. 20, District 191 will change the default setting in its mass notification system so that parents and guardians receive text notifications when messages are sent out by schools or the district. By default, the texts will be “digests,” meaning parents will receive one text message letting them know about all posts or alerts that were sent from their children’s schools or the district over the whole day.

ParentSquare, the district’s mass notification system, allows parents to manage their communication preferences through the ParentSquare mobile app or the ParentSquare website. All parents are automatically provided ParentSquare accounts. To learn more about ParentSquare in District 191 or to log in to your account, go to www.isd191.org/parentsquare

Key points:

  • If District 191 has a text-enabled phone for you, you will start receiving text notifications on Sept. 20 (Note: There will be no changes for parents who have already accessed their ParentSquare account and managed their notification settings.)
  • Notifications will be sent as a “digest,” meaning parents will get one text message in the evening notifying them of any and all messages from District 191 schools for the whole day.
  • Parents can change their notifications settings by logging into their accounts at www.isd191.org/parentsquare

Parents can opt out of all texts by replying “STOP” to any text from District 191. PLEASE NOTE: OPTING OUT OF TEXTS MEANS YOU DO NOT RECEIVE EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS BY TEXT, including for inclement weather or other emergencies.

To start getting texts again, text “START” to 66458. This will turn the text messages back on for your phone.
