District 191 wins Meritorious Budget Award

Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 recently received the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for 2026-27 from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International. The award recognizes excellence in preparing the 2026-27 budget and the district’s commitment to fiscal transparency. 

ASBO International’s MBA and introductory Pathway to the MBA programs promote and recognize excellence in school budget presentation. Program participation enhances school business officials’ skills in developing, analyzing and presenting a school system budget. Participants submit their budget documents to a panel of school financial professionals who review the materials for compliance with the MBA criteria checklist and other requirements and provide expert feedback that districts can use to improve their budget documents. 

District 191 was commended for its budget documents prepared and presented by the Finance Department. The ASBO stated: “The budget is an excellent document. It is user-friendly for the average resident with an abundance of data to meet varied readers’ needs.”

“I’m happy that we were able to provide a solid budget book for the community,” district Finance Director Tyler Dehne said. “The finance team did its best to put together a book that provides more information than ever on how the district is funded and how the money is spent.”

This is the fourth time District 191 has received the Meritorious Budget Award.
