District 191 School Board's legislative platform prioritizes school safety, stable funding, addressing mandates

On Feb. 12, the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Board of Education adopted its legislative platform for 2026, outlining 10 actions in the categories of school safety, stabilizing funding, and fully funding mandates and essential services.

The platform is an annual document used by the Board to communicate the challenges the district faces and the steps it wants the Minnesota state Legislature to take in response. It was developed by the Board’s Legislative Committee to specifically reflect the priorities for District 191.

Actions included in the platform include increasing funding for school safety initiatives, addressing inflationary pressures on non-instructional funding, providing funding or removing mandates for non-licensed summer unemployment insurance and Paid Leave program requirements, holding districts harmless for students who opt out of state standardized tests, supporting programs that increase teacher diversity and more.

“I encourage community members to read this platform to understand what our priorities are and call their legislators, as well,” Legislative Committee Chair Lesley Chester said. “More voices equals more action.”
