District 191 parent leader earns statewide award

Brian Burthay, a parent in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 and co-chair of the district’s American Indian Parent Advisory Committee, was named the Minnesota Indian Education Association (MIEA) Coach of the Year. He was presented with the award at the MIEA conference earlier this spring.

Burthay coaches in the One91 community across multiple organizations, including with Nicollet Middle School and the Burnsville YMCA. He coaches both youth basketball and youth baseball. In his nomination, he was recognized for his passion for supporting others well beyond coaching, including as a mentor and role model, focusing not just on winning, but on character development and creating strong relationships.

The primary goal of MIEA is to create and uphold a robust communication network while fostering quality education and unity among American Indians. Learn more at www.minnesotaindianeducation.org.
