A Children’s Art Show, featuring work from elementary students in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191, opens Thursday, April 14.
The opening reception will take place on April 14 from 5-7 p.m. and the show runs through May 21 in the Ames Center, 12600 Nicollet Ave, Burnsville.
The exhibit features more than 100 selected pieces of artwork by students in kindergarten through grade 5 from all nine elementary schools in District 191. There will be drawings, paintings, mixed media, and a variety of three-dimensional works.
“The Ames Center show is always a ‘must see’ for our 191 community”, said Sara Merkel, art teacher at Hidden Valley Elementary School and organizer of the event. "It is especially exciting this year since we haven’t had our annual show in person since Spring 2019. District 191 students received art instruction virtually last year, and we are all thrilled to be back in our art rooms, seeing our students’ creativity and love for artmaking shine again.”
In addition to Merkel, elementary art teachers are Danae Heckmann (Edward Neill, Vista View), Mara Schriver (Gideon Pond, Rahn), Taylor Nazarenus (Harriet Bishop), Micayla Irmiter (Sky Oaks, Virtual Academy), Maria Starkey (Vista View, Rahn) and Kelly Rae Vo (William Byrne)..
The Ames Center gallery is open Wednesdays (12-5 p.m.), Fridays (12-5 p.m.) and Saturdays (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.). There is no charge to view the exhibit.
