Burnsville, Savage Lions Clubs' donation helps identify vision problems during routine screenings

Thanks to a generous donation from the Burnsville and Savage Lions Clubs, the District 191 Health Services team will be able to easily identify vision problems during routine screenings with the help of SPOT Vision Screeners.

SPOT Vision Screeners are handheld, portable screening devices that can quickly identify vision issues, like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and even risk factors for amblyopia (lazy eye), in patients as young as six months old. They are especially helpful for students who are nonverbal or don’t know how to read yet.

Undiagnosed vision problems can cause students to fall behind academically, appear inattentive, or even be misdiagnosed with behavioral or learning disorders. Early detection means students can receive corrective glasses or treatment before vision issues become more serious or permanent.

School-based screenings remove barriers and help reach children who would otherwise have limited access to vision care—ensuring every student has access to quality vision care and the ability to succeed in the classroom.

The Lions Club has a long history of supporting District 191 students and families, such as providing vouchers to receive free eye exams and glasses. We are grateful for their continued support.
