Burnsville High School Olympic Weightlifting team dominates in dual competition

Burnsville High School hosted Tri-City United for an Olympic Weightlifting dual on Feb. 9.  A total of 41 lifters competed, with 11 Blaze athletes placing first. 

Students on junior varsity earning placement include:

  • 55kg Abigail Erickson - 1st
  • 64kg Caroline Thoreson - 2nd
  • 61kg Evan Duong - 1st
  • 61kg Andy Duong - 2nd
  • 73kg Kaleb Buckner - 1st
  • 102+kg Robert Joos - 1st

Varsity lifters earning placement include: 

  • 64kg Madison Spears - 1st
  • 87+kg Emma Klug - 1st
  • 87+kg Ema Tilbury - 2nd
  • 55kg Scott Froebe - 1st
  • 81kg Mason Pederson - 1st
  • 89kg Gerardo Camacho - 1st
  • 96kg Kaden Krueger - 1st
  • 102kg Kenny Moe - 3rd
  • 109+kg Lowery Skilling - 1st

Five Blaze athletes have already qualified for the Minnesota Weightlifting State Championship, including Jaydon Ellis, Abigail Erickson, Scott Froebe, Joseph Mousseau and Caroline Thoreson.There is also a “Last Chance Meet” slated for Feb. 24 in Lakeville, when athletes can compete for a spot at the state meet.   

“The Blaze lifters continue to perform at their best, with almost every lifter achieving a personal best,” said coach Justin Lerfald. “This group of lifters has shown great dedication and effort not only this season but for several years. I am so proud of all of them as they continue to Raise The Bar!”

The state meet will be held on March 9 at Cannon Falls High School.
