Burnsville High School accredited as secondary location for IHCC

On Feb. 14, Burnsville High School was accredited by the Higher Learning Commission as a secondary location for Inver Hills Community College (IHCC). This accreditation allows BHS students who are pursuing their Associate of Arts Degree to qualify for financial aid, transfer credits and obtain professional licensure in their field of study, all while remaining on campus at BHS.

“Through our partnership with IHCC, we are offering a college within a high school where students benefit by earning an AA Degree before they graduate from high school and can participate in activities and clubs that are important in teenagers' lives,” Director of Strategic Partnerships and Pathways Kathy Funston said. “Because of this accreditation, our students can transfer their credits and degree to the vast majority of four-year colleges/universities and enter as juniors.” 

The Associate of Arts Degree is part of the PreK-12 Pathways model in District 191. Pathways starts at the youngest levels by providing learning opportunities and experiences that spark students’ wonder and interest in what’s possible. At the middle school level, Pathways learning is designed to foster exploration, nurture creativity and self-discovery, and ensure students have the skills they’ll need to pursue their futures. By the time they reach high school, students are ready to explore career possibilities and envision a future where their aspirations are truly within reach.
