Board's 2024 legislative platform calls for equitable education, support for safe schools

On Jan. 25, the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Board of Education adopted its legislative platform for 2024, prioritizing equitable funding and school safety. The actions described in the platform align with District 191’s core values, and convey the challenges it faces, to legislators, policymakers and to the public.

The three pillars of the platform on which the board asks the state legislature and U.S. Congress to take action are: Fully funding of mandates and essential services, removing barriers so all students and families can succeed, and creating safe school environments that support all students.

“[The new platform] takes into consideration some of the legislative changes that have occurred that might have implications to our district,” Legislative Committee Chair Lesley Chester said, “as well as maintaining some items that are still our priorities as a district, in terms of benefitting our students.”
