Board approves updated purchase agreement for Metcalf property

On May 9, members of the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Board of Education unanimously approved an amended purchase agreement for the property that has been home to Metcalf Middle School.

The updated purchase agreement sets the price at $9.63 million for the 35-acre property. District 191 will use the proceeds first to pay off existing debt on the property, which is currently about $5.5 million but may be less by the time closing occurs. Whatever proceeds are remaining at the time of closing will be transferred to the district’s general fund, as allowed by state legislation passed in 2023.

An updated agreement was needed after the developer purchasing the property was asked to modify their plans and reduce the total number of housing units in order to receive approvals from the city of Eagan.

The developer, Syndica, LLP, plans a mix of townhomes, duplexes, apartments, a senior residence and park for the property, which sits near the intersection of Diffley Road and Highway 77. No specific date has been set for demolition of the Metcalf building or for beginning construction.
