BHS senior wins Aspirations in Computing Award

Burnsville High School senior Julia Osmolski has been named a 2024 State Winner of the Aspirations in Computing award by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), which honors students for their computing-related achievements and interests, and encourages them to pursue their passions.

Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access and future plans.

This is the fourth time she has received an award from the NCWIT. In 2023, she was a state honorable mention recipient, in 2022, she received an affiliate Rising Star Award, and in 2021 she received a Certificate of Distinction Award.

Julia will be recognized at an awards ceremony on April 18.

“Given it is my senior year and final year with the NCWIT program, I was beyond grateful to have been honored as a State Winner,” she said. “The recognition from this organization empowers me to continue to pursue a future in technology and I encourage all female-identifying students interested in tech to check out the NCWIT program and apply next year!”

At BHS, Julia is involved in National Honors Society, Math League, DECA, Youth Service Advisory Council, Burnsville Strong, Link Crew and student council.

She is now gaining real world experience in the technology field by interning in the IT department at Prime Therapeutics. Julia has experience coding with JavaScript, Java, CSS, and HTML and has earned Microsoft Certified Application Specialist: Using Microsoft Office Excel. She plans on attending a four-year college in the fall of 2024 with a double major in cybersecurity and computer engineering or artificial intelligence. Her goal is to create a secure operating system that focuses on digital privacy.
