The timeline for our elementary students to return to in-person learning is:

• Jan. 27-28 - No school for Pre-Kindergarten-Grade 2. All other grades continue with distance learning. These days will be used to prepare for students to return on Feb. 1.
• Jan. 29 - No school for all students. This is a planned day for professional development and for teachers to complete Semester 1 report cards. 
• Feb. 1 - Students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 2 will begin full-time, in-person learning, five days per week.  
• Feb. 11-12 - No school for Grades 3-5. These days will be used to prepare for students to return on Feb. 15.
• Feb. 15 - Students in Grades 3-5 will begin full-time, in-person learning, five days per week. 

These changes do not affect middle or high schools at this time, which continue to be more closely tied to how many new cases there are in the community. They also don’t affect students enrolled in Virtual Academy.

How the decision to change learning models is made

Along with public health conditions around COVID-19, there are many other factors that play a role in determining what learning model District 191 schools use, including student attendance data, staffing considerations and our ability to implement health and safety measures like cleaning or providing PPE. Student Meals

The federal program that allows Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 to provide free meals to all children ages 1-18 has been extended through June 30, 2021, or until funding runs out. Meals are available to all children, including those who are not enrolled in District 191. Learn more about meal distribution.

Transportation

In a hybrid model, students are required to practice social distancing while riding the bus. This means the district does have as much space for students, so we are asking families to use alternative transportation if they can, such as driving their children to school, participating in a ride share with friends/neighbors, or walking/biking if it is safe.

Childcare

Childcare is available during distance learning time and for both before- and after-school and non-school days for children in grades K-5. As required by state order, children of first responders, educators and other essential workers on Tier 1 of the state’s essential worker list have access to free child care during typical school hours only.

Dial Approach for Athletics, Activities, Enrichment & Facilities

The district’s dial system has seven restriction levels - from 0 to 6 - ranging from no in-person activity allowed to full competitions with spectators. The restriction level will be determined weekly by the District 191 Athletics and Activities COVID Response Team in consultation with state and county health officials, the state high school league, and district leadership.

Health & Safety Commitments

To help minimize the potential spread of COVID-19, District 191 is taking the following actions:

• Masks are mandated for staff and students in grades K-12 while in school.
• Strict social distancing
• Emphasizing handwashing, provide hand sanitizer
• Minimize visitors to schools
• Increased cleaning, sanitizing of school buildings
