District 191 secondary students receive library cards

All students in grades 6 through 12 in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 have library cards they can use in person or online with both the Dakota County and Scott County public library systems.

Students at Eagle Ridge, Metcalf and Nicollet Middle Schools, and Burnsville High School and Burnsville Alternative High School can easily access library resources including online one-on-one homework help, research tools, e-books, audiobooks, movies/TV DVDs, music CDs, translation services, electronic magazines and print books.

National Junior Honor Society expands to all three middle schools in District 191

National Junior Honor Society, already in place at two middle schools, will expand this fall so that all middle schools in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 will offer the program for high-achieving students.

NJHS recognizes outstanding middle school students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. It also challenges them to develop further through involvement in school activities and community service (15 to 20 hours per student during a school year).

New mural brightens lunchroom at Nicollet Middle School

A large colorful mural has transformed the lunch room at Nicollet Middle School this spring.

About 150 students in grades 6-8, who had art class with teacher Kacie Wilson second semester, helped create the new mural under the guidance of Twin Cities artist Shane Anderson.

Students brainstormed with Anderson about Nicollet concepts, programs and features that could be included in the mural which takes up most of a 60x12 foot wall. Worked into the design, are the words “AVID” and “Nice” along with academic, artistic and athletic items.  

District 191 middle school students will be part of dance performance on March 2

Students in grades 6-8 from Eagle Ridge, Metcalf and Nicollet Middle Schools will be part of a modern dance concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 2, in the Mraz Center at Burnsville High School, 600 E. Highway 13.

The students have been part of an eight-week program working with professional teaching artists to create two pieces for the performance.

This event is made possible by the Modern Dance Project, a partnership that includes the Youth Dance Ensemble, the Burnsville Youth Collaborative and Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Community Education.

‘Explore’ District 191 middle schools at upcoming events

Parents of future middle school students are invited to attend an upcoming "Explore Middle School" event at any of the three middle schools in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191.

These events will provide opportunities for parent and students to learn how the district's middle schools help students explore their academic interests in a supportive environment. Every middle school in District 191 is a STEA³M school with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, plus Arts, AVID and Advanced Learning.
