New mural brightens lunchroom at Nicollet Middle School

A large colorful mural has transformed the lunch room at Nicollet Middle School this spring.

About 150 students in grades 6-8, who had art class with teacher Kacie Wilson second semester, helped create the new mural under the guidance of Twin Cities artist Shane Anderson.

Students brainstormed with Anderson about Nicollet concepts, programs and features that could be included in the mural which takes up most of a 60x12 foot wall. Worked into the design, are the words “AVID” and “Nice” along with academic, artistic and athletic items.  

District 191 middle school students will be part of dance performance on March 2

Students in grades 6-8 from Eagle Ridge, Metcalf and Nicollet Middle Schools will be part of a modern dance concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 2, in the Mraz Center at Burnsville High School, 600 E. Highway 13.

The students have been part of an eight-week program working with professional teaching artists to create two pieces for the performance.

This event is made possible by the Modern Dance Project, a partnership that includes the Youth Dance Ensemble, the Burnsville Youth Collaborative and Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Community Education.

'Class Acts' celebrates 30th anniversary with performances in District 191

For the past 30 years, teachers have presented Class Acts, a comedy variety show, to raise scholarships for graduating seniors in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191.

As a result, a total of $365,000 has been presented so far to students at Burnsville High School and Burnsville Alternative High School to help pay for college and further educational goals.

District 191’s Bowls for BrainPower event set for April 13

The seventh annual Bowls for BrainPower is set for Thursday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the upper level of Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W. Burnsville Pkwy, in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191.

This annual fund-raiser supports BrainPower in a Backpack, a largely student-supported community service program that provides weekend meals to elementary school students in need. BrainPower, which is funded entirely with donations, currently sends food home with more than 600 children each weekend during the school year in District 191.

'Class Acts' looks to go viral to raise funds for scholarships

Nearly 150 employees in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 are involved in the upcoming 29th annual Class Acts comedy variety show to raise money for scholarships for graduating students.This year’s show, dubbed “#ClassActs” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on March 9-11, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Saturday, March 11. All performances will be in the Mraz Center at Burnsville High School, 600 E.
