Burnsville Alternative High School (BAHS) 2017-18!
Welcome to the new school year 2017-18! We’re prepared for an exciting year of learning for all students and staff.
Increasing student engagement and learning opportunities is our primary goal because this is proven by research to dramatically reduce the achievement gap. This purposeful focus will improve the process of teaching and learning based on relevancy to students thus resulting in increased graduation rate.
Our 2017-2018 goals include supporting students academically, socially and emotionally. We’ll nurture the whole child; which will lead to an increase in BAHS students thriving and earning their HS Diploma. Each student will have the opportunity to gain 21st Century skills required to be successful in our global society.
BAHSInstructional Goal 2017-18
During the 2017-18 school year, 48% to 60% of students enrolled at the Burnsville Alternative High School from Oct. 1, 2017 to May 31, 2018, will increase their Lexile (L) gain by 10% as measured by the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI). (This is a 12% growth target up from an 8% growth target in 2016-17 school year)
(Students who score at or above college readiness will take the Accuplacer to monitor their continued growth. Accuplacer will be offered 2x during school year.)
Culture & Climate Goal 2017-18
In 2017-18 Burnsville Alternative High School will have no more than 10 % classroom referrals in the areas of levels 1 and 2 for all student groups.
Our ongoing student-centered academic focus this year is intentionally aligning all we do to increase student achievement for every student in every student group. We are embedding collaborative and engaging strategies in every classroom utilizing AVID critical reading strategies and focus 10, which is gradual release of responsibility thereby increasing students interactions and processing time allowing our students to become excellent critical thinkers and problem solvers.
Please stop by for a visit. You’re always welcome.
