A change in state law means students entering seventh grade must receive additional vaccinations before starting school. The vaccines — for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) and meningococcal (MCV4) — are also recommended for students entering grade 8 through 12.
These vaccinations are in addition to other required immunizations. Students who do not show proof of the required vaccinations or a legal exemption will not be permitted to attend school.
To help families meet the new requirements, the Dakota County Public Health Department is offering a free “Back2School” vaccination clinic for students entering grades 7 through 12 this fall. The clinic will take place Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Dakota County Western Service Center in Apple Valley, located at 14955 Galaxie Ave.
