About Pond

At Gideon Pond Elementary School, we serve a diverse community of about 500 students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Located in the “heart” of Burnsville, Minn., our school and families benefit from being just minutes from Burnsville City Hall, Burnsville Ice Arena, the Heart of the City mixed-use development, and many other amenities. We are truly a community school, and that’s something you will feel from the moment you walk through the front door.

What Makes Us Unique

Climate & Culture - We know that students achieve at higher levels in a safe and supportive learning environment so they can stretch themselves out and take learning risks. Our student CARE Club, regular service learning projects, buddy classrooms, and other efforts ensure students are able to do just that.
Responsive, Individualized Instruction - All teachers are part of collaborative teams, meeting weekly to assess student achievement and plan for differentiated instruction. We also feature school wide intervention programming that supports students in literacy and math. This work has helped earn Gideon Pond the Reward School designation from the Minnesota Department of Education for two consecutive years.
Community Support - The support of parents and community members is essential to our work with children. Gideon Pond is fortunate to have an active Parent Teacher Organization and amazing volunteers. They support unique learning opportunities including field trips, teacher mini-grants, the Junior Great Books program and much, much more.

Academics and Activities

We provide a variety of academic programs and unique student activities that support students as they become the best learners and citizens they can be.
Full-Day, Every-Day Kindergarten - At Gideon Pond, every student can attend full-day kindergarten for free. There is no greater investment than in early learning, and we are committed to providing the resources our students need to succeed.
Specialists - Education is about more than just math and reading. All students have art, physical education, science and music classes, too.
Band - Students in fifth and sixth grades can explore instrumental music as part of the Gideon Pond band, receiving small group lessons, full band instruction and performance opportunities.
Chess Club - The game of kings: Members compete with one another, against other District 191 elementary students, and at local tournaments throughout the year.
Project KIDS - Before and after school care option for school-age children.
