school’s DECA program.

Firefly Credit Union helped DECA students launch their project by hosting a luncheon for its staff on Sept. 27 at its corporate office along with students and staff members from Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191.

The Blaze burger is an all-beef patty layered with pepper jack cheese, jalapeño peppers, a fried egg and peanut butter, and topped with a buttery bun seared with the Burnsville ‘B’ logo.

DECA students Callie Gudmonson, Joseph Koski and Ally Saba give rave reviews of the burger. While Joseph mentions to “turn the burger upside down to get a different flavor,” Ally says that “everything in the burger compliments each other.”  Not only do the students engage in product tasting, but they are creatively working to market the burger by employing both print and digital strategies – including distributing flyers and coupons and using Snapchat, Twitter and Facebook.

“With Firefly purchasing more than 150 burgers for the event, DECA students have a wonderful start to their campaign,” said Meggan Malone, advisor to DECA which is a school club that prepares students for careers in marketing, entrepreneurship, hospitality, business management and finance through real-world experiences and classroom curriculum.

“We are honored to help support Burnsville High School DECA students in this campaign,” said Marty Kelly, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Firefly Credit Union. “They have been hard at work on multiple exciting projects with us already this school year including our Community Shred Event and prepping for the upcoming Burnsville High School credit union branch. This time it is us giving back to them.”

Blaze Burger Month runs Oct. 1-31 and is only available at the Burger Jones location at 1619 County Road 42 in Burnsville.
