Students from Eagle Ridge and Nicollet middle schools in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 competed at the national Quiz Bowl championships May 11-13 in Chicago. The teams qualified for nationals based on their results in local tournaments throughout the school year.
The Metcalf Middle School Chess Team participated in the National Middle School Chess Championships in Atlanta, GA, April 6-8. Seventeen members attended along with two players from William Byrne Elementary.

Thirty Burnsville High School DECA students competed at the 2018 Minnesota DECA State Career Development Conference (SCDC), held March 4-6 in Minneapolis. One student qualified for Nationals and nine students were named state finalists in a competition that had more than 2,000 students compete.
Senior Ryan Horrocks was a state finalist in the Advanced Interview and Marketing Communications series. He placed third in the Marketing Communications series event and qualified for DECA Nationals, which will be April 21-24 in Georgia.
In its first season, the Burnsville High School boys’ powerlifting team was crowned state champions, while the girls team earned runner-up at the USAPL Minnesota State High School Championships on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Rockford, Minn. In addition, five Blaze athletes won individual state titles, and seven lifters qualified for the National Championships in March.
Six teams represented Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 in a Quiz Bowl tournament at Shattuck-St. Mary's on Nov. 11 and each team finished in the top 10 of their respective divisions with two qualifying for national championships, according to Coach Les Moffitt.
Burnsville High School secured its second South Suburban Conference Quiz Bowl Championship Feb. 23.

The Burnsville High School Quiz Bowl team continues to be a prominent player in the quizzing circuit, and it is quite evident by the success they’ve had in tournaments in January and early February.
