Mobile computing is not the future. It’s the now, and thanks to teacher Cindy Drahos, students at Burnsville High School aren’t having to wait to dive in to mobile programming.
Nominations for inductees into the Burnsville High School (BHS) Hall of Fame Class of 2015 are being accepted now through March 20, 2015.
Nominations can be submitted electronically by going to www.isd191.org/halloffame. Nomination forms can also be picked up in the BHS office.
Staff members are inviting students, families and community members to Burnsville High School (BHS) to discover all that it offers in academics, the arts and activities/athletics by attending a special event on Tuesday, Feb. 3, beginning at 6 p.m. at Burnsville High School, 600 E. Highway 13.
Come out to the "Potter's All Call" on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Burnsville High School in the Art Wing (room H108).

The Burnsville Olympic Weightlifting team placed first at the Northfield meet on Saturday, Jan. 17. Michael Schiller set a new Minnesota state record (247 total kilograms or 543 pounds) in the varsity 77kg weight class by lifting 107kg (235 pounds) on the snatch and 140kg (308 pounds) on the clean and jerk. Sixty Burnsville High School students who are members of DECA recently competed in the District 2 Conference with their written projects, presentations and role-plays.
Twenty-nine of the students have qualified for the State DECA Conference in March with nearly 20 of them placing in the top third in their section event and receiving trophies. Many of the students qualified in multiple events.
There will be an ASVAB representative here on Tuesday, Jan. 27 to discuss test results with students who took the ASVAB test on Oct. 31 at both the BHS main and senior campuses. This is a required meeting and will take place from 1-2 p.m. in the Upper Media Labs at the main campus. An announcement will be made the day of the meeting for students to report.
The South Suburban Conference One Act Festival is January 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m at Burnsville High School. This event is free to the public.
Each year the Minnesota State High School League hosts a competition for One Act plays. Each submitting entry to the competition features up to eight players in a 30-minute act, with supporting help from student technicians.
Congratulations to Vivian Hett, a former Blaze skier who was recently named the to the Nordic Junior World Championship team. She will compete in the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships Jan. 28 to Feb. 8.
Currently, Hett is attending Northern Michigan University and is in her first year of college skiing.
