2019 Senior Profile: Luna Yemane

To celebrate members of the Class of 2019 and help the One91 Community get to know some of the students at Burnsville High School and Burnsville Alternative High School, we're publishing several "Senior Profiles" as we gear up for commencement ceremonies the week of June 3. Congratulations to all of our seniors!

Who was a favorite teacher or staff member & why?

Mrs. Vogt, because she is awesome! I had Mrs. Vogt only for a semester in 11th grade, but I always talk to Mrs. Vogt whenever I need help with anything school related or not. Even if I don't need help, Mrs. Vogt always listens to me vent!

What is one memory of high school you will take with you after leaving?

One of my favorite high school memories would be hosting the Speak Up event for the school with the Black Student Union. Seeing the Burnsville High School community actively work to communicate with each other and diminish the barriers that keep students divided gave me hope. I also was so proud of all the work that my peers involved in the Black Student Union accomplished to make this day successful.

What are your plans for after graduation?

After I graduate, I plan to attend the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, majoring in political science and minoring in African American studies.

What advice would you give to younger students to make the most of their high school experiences?

There are many opportunities to make your high school experience count. Use all your resources like your counselor and Mrs. Sexton. Burnsville High School has so many different ways to explore potential careers or interests if you just look for them.
