To celebrate members of the Class of 2019 and help the One91 Community get to know some of the students at Burnsville High School and Burnsville Alternative High School, we're publishing several "Senior Profiles" as we gear up for commencement ceremonies the week of June 3. Congratulations to all of our seniors!
Who was a favorite teacher or staff member & why?
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Allen. She was my AP Human Geography teacher my freshman year and she has had a profound impact on me and my academic career. She was the first teacher to truly challenge me, and she also gave me the skills I needed to be successful in high school. My other favorite teacher is Mrs. Coleman. She was my AP Government teacher, and her class has been my absolute favorite because she makes it enjoyable but also fosters my passion for politics and has allowed me do delve deeper into the subject.
What are your plans for after graduation?
I plan to attend Howard University in Washington D.C. in the fall majoring in architecture and minoring in political science.
How do you think you've changed as a person during the last four years?
Throughout high school I have been able to grow in so many different ways. Before high school, I didn't know what I stood for. I have been able to discover my voice and I now know the type of person that I want to become in my future.
What was the most difficult challenge you faced in high school?
Finding balance. I am involved in a lot of things in and outside of school and I have had a hard time finding balance in my life, and I am still learning to do this. I have been guilty of joining too many activities, taking lots of hard classes, and taking up too many things at once and it is something I am trying to avoid.
What advice would you give to younger students to make the most of their high school experiences?
Opportunities are everywhere, you just have to look for them.
What makes you most excited when you think about your future?
Our generation is at the peak of some major events that are happening around the world. We are a generation of change. I am so excited to see what we will do now and far into the future because we have so much to offer and we are only just getting started.
