Finalists named for District 191 superintendent position

UPDATE (April 13, 2019)

Dr. Brenda Cassellius has withdrawn as a candidate for the District 191 superintendent position and the schedule of all-day interviews is being adjusted as a result.

Dr. Theresa Battle's all-day interview in the district will be moved to Wednesday, April 17. Dr. Ryan Laager's interview will remain on Tuesday, April 16. There will be no superintendent interview on Monday, April 15.

All other details will remain the same.

The updated schedule is:

  • Tuesday, April 16 - Dr. Ryan Laager, superintendent of Belle Plaine Public Schools;
  • Wednesday, April 17 -  Dr. Theresa Battle, assistant superintendent for St. Paul Public Schools.

The Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Board of Education selected three superintendent candidates to participate in all-day interviews during the week of April 15.

"As a board, we are really pleased with the candidates we met and excited about the finalists, who we and community members will get to know better next week," Board Chair Abigail Alt said. "I think the strength and experience of applicants we were able to attract speaks highly about where we are as a school community."

The finalists and their scheduled all-day interviews are:

  • Monday, April 15 - Dr. Theresa Battle, assistant superintendent for St. Paul Public Schools; (Moved to Wednesday, April 17)
  • Tuesday, April 16 - Dr. Ryan Laager, superintendent of Belle Plaine Public Schools;
  • Wednesday, April 17 - Dr. Theresa Battle, assistant superintendent for St. Paul Public Schools.

Over the course of the day, candidates will participate in interviews with students, staff and community members. Community members will also be able to meet and ask questions of the candidates from 5-6 p.m. on each day, with those meetings taking place at Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W. Burnsville Pkwy.

Following the community meetings, the board will conduct interviews of each candidate and potentially choose a preferred candidate by the end of the night on April 17.
