On Sept. 25, students at Gideon Pond Elementary helped staff celebrate a $500 grant from Farmer’s Insurance agents Tim Otting and Maddy Otting. The gift is part of a larger donation that will provide literacy instruction materials to all 10 elementary schools in District 191.
Gideon Pond intervention teacher Laurel Mirs said the materials purchased with the grant will help round out the school’s resources, ensuring all students – whether they are reading below, above or at grade level – have engaging curriculum materials that meet their needs.
“Literacy goes beyond simply reading and writing these days,” Tim Otting said, explaining why they chose to support this work. “The ability to confidently communicate thoughts and ideas through the use of words, and to be able to see, comprehend, and express oneself is a critical component not only of the learning process but used throughout our entire lives."
