Students, families and community members will have a unique opportunity to “discover” Burnsville High School on Thursday, Nov. 2, getting a first-hand look at the school and how it helps students find their passions and prepare to succeed in their futures.
At DiscoverBHS Night, attendees will be able to take student-led or self-guided tours of the school’s new learning spaces, learn more about “Pathways” programming that prepares students for career and college, see some of those programs in action, and hear from current students.
“We are so proud of what we’re able to offer students that we want families and community members to see it for themselves,” said Principal Dave Helke. “The range of programs that are available now, the expansion of technology, our entire approach to preparing students for career and college — there’s a lot to discover at BHS.”
Attendees can take self-guided tours of the school starting at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., a presentation in the commons area will highlight the school’s Pathways model of encouraging students to think about and plan their education with the future in mind. A panel of students will discuss their experiences at the school.
After the presentation, visitors can continue with student-led or self-directed tours. Featured stops on the tour include the newly constructed areas such as the fabrication and STEM labs, flexible and technology-enhanced classrooms, automotive lab, nursing lab, expanded commons area and new activities center, as well as already existing spaces such as the video production studio, Mraz Center for performing arts, and the career center.
Teachers, advisers and coaches will be available to talk about academic, activities and athletics opportunities that are available at Burnsville High School. Attendees will also be able to see demonstrations, including the culinary program, robotics and video production, as well as experience how students and teachers use the online learning management system Schoology.
