Jon Bonneville will become principal of Sky Oaks Elementary School in Burnsville on July 1, pending approval by the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Board of Education later this month.
Bonneville, currently principal of Hidden Valley Elementary School in Savage, approached Superintendent Joe Gothard about transferring to Sky Oaks when a vacancy developed.
“Our priority was to identify a leader who fits Sky Oak’s needs and will be able to build on its recent growth and success,” said Gothard. “We are pleased that Jon wants this opportunity because we see him as a great fit for Sky Oaks.”
“Through professional development and teamwork, the staff at Sky Oaks has achieved great results in student learning this year,” said Gothard. “We look forward to further success with Jon as principal.”
Bonneville has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, administrative licensure K-12, and is currently working on a doctorate in educational leadership at the University of St. Thomas.
Right out of college, Bonneville became the science specialist at Hidden Valley. Over the past 22 years at the school, he’s taught students at every grade level. He served as interim principal at Sioux Trail Elementary and Metcalf Junior High before being appointed principal at Hidden Valley in 2006.
Bonneville sees the transfer as a new leadership opportunity and looks forward to continuing with Sky Oaks staff members to support the good work they’re doing.
A principal opening has been posted with the goal of having a new principal at Hidden Valley in early July.
“The new principal will be joining Hidden Valley at a good time,” said Bonneville. “There’s so much there to grow and strengthen.”
