Community members invited to help at BHS Giving Garden

Burnsville High School students worked last fall on expanding the school’s Giving Garden.

Community members are invited to help Burnsville High School students build and start planting the school’s Giving Garden on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Burnsville High School's Giving Garden was established to give students and community members an opportunity to learn how to grown their own food and provide for families in the community who don't have food security. The goal is to donate 1,000 pounds of food to 360 Communities by the end of the 2015 planting season.

This fall students worked to expand from a small bucket garden to a larger plot of permanent ground on the BHS campus. On April 25, volunteers will be helping to build a fence for the garden and start planting vegetables. Lunch will be provided for anyone who registers and helps the entire day.

Volunteers can also plant a bucket garden to take home. Giving Garden members will teach you how to start your own home bucket garden, provide you with a recycled bucket, and help you plant beans (while supplies last).

If necessary due to weather, a rain make up day will take place May 9. Register online at www.isd191.org/givinggarden or contact Bri Ostoff at bostoff@isd191.org for more information.
