Blaze Olympic Weightlifting team wins state championship

The Burnsville High School Olympic Weightlifting team won the state championship for the second consecutive year on Saturday, March 7 at Lakeville South High School. Burnsville's junior varsity team finished in second place.

In the varsity girls’ division (17 years old or older), Aneesa Ally is the state champion in the 53Kg weight class. Aneesa is now a three-time state champion. Jackie LeVvintre finished second in the 48Kg weight class. Grace Peterson finished second in the 63Kg weight class. Claire Boatman finished second in the 69Kg weight class. Katie Smith finished second and Geneva Brandt finished third in the 75+Kg weight class. Katie Kleinow finished fourth in the 75Kg weight class.

In the varsity boys’ division (17 years old or older), Ben Nhan is the state champion in the 62 Kg weight class. Ben is now a three-time state champion. Michael Schiller is the state champion in the 85Kg weight class. Michael is now a three-time state champion. Kevin Kucera finished second in the 85Kg weight class.  Jackson Gilman finished second in the 105Kg weight class. Abdi Farah finished second in the 56Kg weight class. Bryce Jorgenson finished second and Luke Simon finished third in the 62Kg weight class. Andy Grahn finished third in the 105+Kg weight class. Gerrit Olsen finished third in the 94Kg weight class. Alex Garlington finished fourth in the 69Kg weight class. Jacob Engel finished fifth in the 94Kg weight class.  Eric Voxland also competed at state in the 77kg weight class.

In the junior varsity girls’ division (16 years old or younger), Erin Bachmeier is the state champion in the 44Kg weight class. Miah Keller finished second in the 63Kg weight class. Raezjine Merriweather finished second in the 69+Kg weight class.

In the junior varsity boys’ division (16 years old or younger), Noah Bachmeier is the state champion in the 69Kg weight class. Nick Burton is the state champion and Jake Staats finished second in the 94+Kg weight class. Travis Agarano finished second in the 62Kg weight class. Matt Odegard finished second in the 85Kg weight class. Jared Shearer finished second and Jake Boatman finished fifth in the 69Kg weight class.

Michael Schiller set a new state record in the varsity boys 85Kg weight class with a clean and jerk of 148Kg (325 pounds) and a combined total of 258Kg (568 pounds). Aneesa Ally set new state record in the varsity girls 53Kg weight class with a snatch of 56Kg (123 pounds), a clean and jerk of 66Kg (145 pounds) and a combined total of 126Kg (275 pounds).
