BHS Quiz Bowl team finishes sixth at state

The Burnsville High School Quiz Bowl team went 7-3 at the State Championship at Eastview High School on Saturday, March 7. In preliminaries, the team went 4-1 to make the playoffs from their grouping. Wayzata B was the undefeated winner in Burnsville's grouping. Moving on to a group of six for the round robin playoff, Burnsville beat Armstrong, St. Paul Academy B and the number one team in the state, Wayzata A (80-2). In the end, Burnsville lost to Eden Prairie B and St. Paul Central.

Burnsville's victory over Wayzata A was an outstanding accomplishment. Wayzata had won nearly every tournament – only Eden Prairie had beaten them before. Their loss against Burnsville put them in a difficult position to win the state championship; they would have had to beat Eden Prairie's top two teams in three consecutive matches. And, they were unable to do so.

  • 1st: Eden Prairie
  • 2nd: Eden Prairie B
  • 3rd: Wayzata A
  • 4th: Wayzata B
  • 5th: Mounds Park
  • 6th: Burnsville

In the last two weekends, Burnsville knocked out Eden Prairie A at ACRONYM (Robbinsdale) and Wayzata A at the state championship!  This puts Burnsville in a great position for nationals.
