A team of two Burnsville High School students placed third among 1,100 teams in the Fall 2014 Stock Market Game sponsored by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
Kayla Williams and Carter Frey were honored at an awards ceremony at Wells Fargo in Minneapolis on Jan. 23.
Both are members of the after-school Stock Market/Investment Club at Burnsville High School coached by business education teacher Cindy Drahos.
Through participation in the Stock Market Game, students compete by managing an imaginary stock portfolio of $100,000. They improve their financial literacy skills through investment strategies and expand their ability to work as a team using decision-making and critical-thinking skills.
“This is very relevant real-world learning for our students,” said Drahos. “The Stock Market Game is a hands-on opportunity for students to learn about how the stock market reacts to the ever changing elements in U.S. and international markets.”
