District 191 seeks Promise Fellows

The Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District is seeking AmeriCorps Promise Fellows for their secondary schools. Promise Fellows will work with youth in grades 7-10 at one of the following locations: Metcalf Junior High School, Eagle Ridge Junior High School, Nicollet Junior High School, Burnsville High School and Burnsville Alternative High School.

Fellows provide researched-based interventions to students that focus on promoting and improving attendance, behavior and school success. This opportunity will include mentoring students, assisting with academics, engaging students and families in the school and community, and service learning.

Promise Fellows typically serve in our schools Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

People frequently become Promise Fellows to gain experience in education, youth development, social work or related fields, and to experience the rewards of giving back to the community.

As a full-time AmeriCorps member, Promise Fellows will serve 1725 hours (35-40 hours per week) from Sept. 1, 2014 to July 31, 2015 and receive: a modest living allowance (approximately $1,100 monthly pre-tax); health insurance; qualified student loan deferment; qualified childcare assistance; a $5,550 education award upon successful completion of service; ongoing, extensive support and training.
